Women's
Health
Women’s
health in urology is the area of urology which
is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment
of those genitourinary disorders that most
prevalent in women. These include urinary
leakage (incontinence), pelvic floor prolapse,
overactive bladder, recurrent urinary tract
infections, interstitial cystitis and voiding
dysfunction. CHZ
Urology, LLC and the Fairview Urocenter,
offer a comprehensive evaluation and treatment
plan for these conditions. Additional studies
such as cystoscopy, urodynamic evaluation
and comprehensive voiding studies can be required
to fully evaluate the genitourinary tract.
Incontinence
The freedom and self-confidence to enjoy an
active social life are sometimes denied to
those who experience the worry of involuntary
urine loss. If you suffer from urinary incontinence,
you are not alone. Millions of women in the
United States experience some form of urinary
leakage. Urology Associates Ltd is proud to
offer the entire spectrum of therapies for
urinary incontinence from pelvic muscle exercise,
urethral bulking agents to innovative minimally
invasive surgical procedures. With these current
minimally invasive procedures, such as trans-obturator
sling or Mini-arc procedures, many women can
be cured or significantly improved. Most importantly,
we take the time to decide which procedure,
if any, is right for you.
Miniarc
Sling for Stress Incontinence
The
MiniArc Single-Incision Sling System is a
revolutionary procedure for the treatment
of female stress urinary incontinence that
uses a single-incision approach designed to
reduce invasiveness and enhance patient recovery.
It is an outpatient procedure requiring only
a 1 inch vaginal incision. It is used to treat
Stress Urinary Incontinence and is very effective
in improving/ curing urinary leakage. In a
recent study- more than 91% of patients experienced
significant improvement in symptoms and more
than 95% of patients undergoing the procedure
would recommend it to a friend.

Pelvic
Prolapse
Pelvic support disorders involve a dropping
down (prolapse) of bladder, uterus or rectum.
This is caused by weakness or injury to the
ligaments, connective tissue and muscles in
the pelvis. All pelvic floor disorders are
essentially hernias, in which tissue protrudes
abnormally because another tissue is weakened.
Our surgeons individualize your treatment
based on the type and severity of the prolapsed.
Treatment options include physical therapy,
pessary devices, and surgical interventions.
One out of 11 women will need needs surgery
for prolapse during her lifetime. You and
your urologist may decide that surgery is
the best way to treat your cystocele or rectocele.
Almost always, these types of prolapse are
repaired without making any abdominal incisions.
Instead, an opening is made in the vaginal
canal that allows the weakened vaginal tissue
to be identified and reinforced using a durable
mesh material and sutures. In the end, the
goal of surgery is to restore natural shape
and function to the vaginal canal and prevent
the reoccurrence of prolapse.
Recurrent
Urinary Infections
A recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI)
may be generally defined as three or more
infections within one year. Approximately
fifty percent of all women will have at least
one UTI in her lifetime with many women having
several infections throughout their lifetime.
These infections can be idiopathic, with no
obvious cause, or related to a urologic disorder
such as stones, tumor, ineffective bladder
emptying, or reflux (where urine flows backwards
toward the kidney). Treatment is aimed at
identifying the cause and/or proper antibiotic
therapy to break the cycle of recurrent infection.
Overactive Bladder
and Interstitial Cystitis
This condition is characterized by the excessive
urge to frequently urinate. Symptoms range
from having to wake often at night (nocturia)
to not being able to make it to the bathroom
in time (urge incontinence). Initial evaluation
for this condition will include a voiding
diary and trial of a medication. If medicines
fail, more comprehensive testing will be performed.
Interstitial Cystitis is a chronic bladder
condition affecting thousands of women in
the United States. It can manifest itself
as recurring infections, painful intercourse,
or overactive bladder symptoms which do not
respond to conventional treatments.
